How to use the RedGifs downloader

  1. Copy the link. On RedGifs, copy the watch page address (redgifs.com/watch/…). On Reddit, copy the post's own link – Share → Copy link in the app works too.
  2. Paste it above. NSFWDL finds the HD and SD versions of the clip, including tall vertical ones.
  3. Save the MP4. RedGifs clips are small, so the download is usually done in a second or two.

RedGifs clips from Reddit

Most RedGifs clips are found on Reddit, where the video plays inside the post. You can paste the post's link as it is – including the short link from the Reddit app's Share button – and NSFWDL finds the RedGifs clip in it. Videos uploaded to Reddit itself currently fail on NSFWDL, because Reddit refuses the requests – NSFWDL tells you when that is the case.

The downloader works one clip at a time. It doesn't save a whole subreddit, a user's profile or a Reddit gallery.

HD, vertical and small files

RedGifs usually offers two versions of a clip: an HD file, often 1080p or a tall vertical format made for phones, and a lighter SD file around 480p. Clips are short, so even the HD version is typically a few megabytes – the free limit never comes into play.

Whether a clip has sound depends on the upload. Many RedGifs clips are silent loops; that isn't something the downloader removes or adds.

Saving RedGifs on your phone

On Android the clip goes straight to Downloads. On an iPhone, tap Save the file when it appears in Safari, then open Files → Downloads and share the clip to Photos. If you are inside the Reddit app's browser and nothing happens, open the RedGifs page in Safari or Chrome.

Do RedGifs downloads keep the sound?

If the clip was uploaded with sound, the MP4 has it. Many RedGifs clips are silent by design.

Does NSFWDL expose RedGifs source tokens?

No. Upstream media addresses stay server-side; your browser only receives the finished MP4 from NSFWDL.

Why is my RedGifs clip vertical?
